Sean Maltbie

Mr. Maltbie serves as the first President of Sacred Heart Academy. From May 2014 through June 2023, Mr. Maltbie served as the first Headmaster of Sacred Heart Academy. He was born in Flint, Michigan and raised in Flushing, Michigan on five beautiful acres of land. He was awarded a bachelor of science degree in Mathematics and Geography from Michigan State in 1992 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Mr. Maltbie taught high school math for a short time before starting his active duty career. He served as an aircraft maintenance officer before the Air Force selected him to attend law school where he earned a Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the Michigan State College of Law in 1999. During this time, he met his wife and was received into the Catholic Church. Mr. Maltbie served on active duty in the Air Force for almost 14 years before transitioning to the Air National Guard in Michigan in 2006. He continued to serve the Air National Guard until retiring as a colonel with 30 years of service in March 2022. Upon moving back home to Michigan in 2006, he worked in private practice in Grand Rapids for three years before being appointed an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. He served in the US Attorney’s office as a criminal prosecutor for five years before being named the first Headmaster of Sacred Heart Academy in May 2014. He also served as a teaching assistant in college and law school. His final active duty assignment was as an instructor at the Air Force Judge Advocate General School. He has served the Church as a catechist since 2002. Throughout his 30 year career he served on numerous professional and community boards. Mr. Maltbie is married with two adult children and enjoys spending time at the lake with his wife and family. He also loves playing golf, fishing, and reading. He took the confirmation name of Thomas in honor of Saint Thomas the Apostle, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and Saint Thomas More.
