Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish
2024 Strategic Intent Map

What’s in a name?

Everything.

  • It is important to note that a strategic intent map is not a strategic plan. A plan is rigid. We use maps when we want to understand where we are, where we want to go, and ways we might get there. Our parish map serves this purpose.
  • The map outlines a vision for how we share our common life together.
  • This is a final draft, but it changes as circumstances and needs change.
  • Particular parishioners’ engagement with the map may be different from one day to the next, depending on their particular location on their pilgrim journey with the Church.

Why is a map important now?

  • The map captures the story of our place and time in the life of the Church.
  • The map shows us how we might persist in the good that has been happening here.
  • It makes sure we have good counsel on how to act to secure our future today.
  • It allows us to make good decisions in charity for the common good

How did the map come to be?

  • Fall 2023 – Parish Council engaged in analysis of the parish communities strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT analysis)
  • May/June 2024 – Parish received 130 responses to survey regarding life at the parish
  • June 2024 – Approximately 250 people attended parish town hall listening sessions
  • August 2024 – Diverse group of 24 parishioners spent nine hours over three nights discerning, discussing and drawing the Strategic Intent Map you see today.

Who does the map apply to?

Every parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus. We are members of this body. We are the living stones that make up the Church. Everyone should be able to see themselves living the life of the Church somewhere on this map.

How do I engage with the map?

  • Any one parishioner’s engagement with the map is unique.
  • You might ask yourself, “Where on this map am I committed to engaging with my fellow parishioners to use my unique gifts to love and serve God and my neighbor?”

Take-Aways from this Map and Where do We go from Here?

  • There is a lot of information – take it home and read it! Pray about it and how your commitment fits in.
    • Take time to delve into this.
  • Take note of our Mission and Vision.
