For Immediate Release: February 22, 2024 Contact:Mr. Jonathan BadingDirector of Sacred Music, Church phone: (616) 459 - 8362 ext. 6musicdirector@shgr.orgSecchia family gifts organ to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic ChurchSacred Heart Parish is happy to announce that, through the immense generosity of the Secchia Family, we are now able to embark on another crucial piece of our ongoing restoration project–the construction of a new pipe organ! The organ is a gift to honor the memory of Peter F. Secchia. Mr. Secchia was a celebrated businessman and philanthropist in Grand Rapids who served as U.S. Ambassador to Italy and San Marino from 1989 -1993.The Peter F. Secchia Memorial Organ will be a new 39-rank instrument of 2,340 pipes made by Fratelli Ruffatti of Padua, Italy. The Ruffattis are a world-class organ building firm that has installed organs across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The Secchia Organ will be handcrafted to match the Sacred Heart’s architecture and acoustics. This new instrument will bring the love of the Sacred Heart to the people of Grand Rapids, particularly through the indispensable gift of Sacred Music. This gift comes at a providential time as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of our parish church, continue our efforts to restore our sanctuary as a worthy place to worship God, and prepare for our year-long choral festival, Palestrina500 (palestrina500.org), beginning in December of this year. Construction of the custom-made organ will begin this month with plans to install it in the summer of 2025. It will be the only Italian made organ of its kind in the State of Michigan. We hope it will serve as the musical backbone of the sacred liturgies, making a joyful noise unto the Lord for another 100 years, and especially for our festival's latter half. ... See MoreSee Less
