“Fight like Heaven” Vote NO on Proposal 3

Today, there is a grave threat to women and children in our State. It is the proposed “Reproductive Freedom for All” constitutional amendment. This proposed amendment will be on our ballots this fall as Proposal 3. It seeks the approval of the people of this state to amend the State Constitution to include a so-called “right to abortion,” but it is much more extreme than that. It could:

• Allow abortion up until birth
• Allow minors to pursue abortions and sterilization without parental notification or consent
• Exempt abortion facilities from safety regulation
• Allow anyone to perform an abortion, even if they don’t have a medical license
• Repeal or drastically alter dozens of state laws

Governor Whitmer has repeatedly said both she and her allies in the pro-abortion lobby will “fight like hell” to ensure abortion is legal in Michigan. In addition to voting NO, we must ‘Fight Like Heaven!’ to combat this proposed amendment by employing the three great spiritual weapons of the Christian life: Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

The Diocese of Lansing is inviting Catholics across the state to join them in a novena beginning on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, Sept. 15. This will be 54-days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, concluding on election day. You can sign up for a daily text providing information and inspiration across each of the 54 days by texting “FightLikeHeaven” to 84576.

40 Days for Life

40 Day for Life continues to stand strong in the face of a culture of death. We pray, fast, and stand in peaceful vigil outside the abortion facility at 320 E. Fulton pleading that God will change hearts and minds and bring goodness and not evil into the lives of the babies, moms, and dads who come there to end the life of their baby. Will you join in this effort? Will you make a sacrificial offering of your presence to God on behalf of those who know no other way?

This Fall’s Campaign begins on Wed., Sept. 28 and ends on Sun., Nov. 6. Sacred Heart Parish has been assigned Sept. 28 and Nov. 4. The hours are 7am-7pm.
You can sign up online at OR sign-up sheets will be available in the back of church.

Walking with Moms in Need

Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of the sea of indifferences.” Everyone in our parish community should know where to refer a pregnant or parenting woman in need. Our parishes are joining a nationwide effort entitled: “Walking with Moms in Need.” As part of this initiative, the Diocese of Grand Rapids, in partnership with Catholic Charities West Michigan, will be providing step-by-step help through webinars, resources and ongoing support. Please join us on September 29th at either 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. to learn how to begin the process. R.S.V.P. to Now more than ever, let’s walk with moms and dads in need!
