A Note From Father Sirico – June 5

This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity, and as we approach this second weekend of public Masses, please take a moment to read a note from Father Sirico. Back to Mass – Weekend 2

Sacred Heart of Jesus Gradual Parish Reopening
Phase One Pentecost through the month of June

May 24, 2020

Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart,

Ad majorem Dei gloriam! For the greater glory of God!

We are excited to welcome you back to church as we enter Phase One of the gradual reopening process – just in time to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost (weekend of May 29 – June 1). This week, the Diocese of Grand Rapids communicated their guidelines to begin celebrating public Masses. Sacred Heart has coordinated procedures within these guidelines in order for our parishioners to return to Mass. It is expected careful consideration be given to diocesan and parish protocols when choosing to attend Mass alone and/or with your families.

Clergy, staff and parish apostolates have been working diligently and thoughtfully to put these diocesan protocols in place in an effort to provide the safest environment in which to gather again in our Lord’s presence. This is new territory, therefore we humbly ask for your patience and kindness going forward.

Diocesan guidelines call for limited seating (25%) of our capacity which works out to 150 people. We are adding extra Masses to our weekend schedule, asking that all healthy parishioners sign-up prior to attending, and requesting that attendees bring their own face coverings/masks for all family members, ages 2 and up. In addition, we are modifying the church to identify single entry and exit points, removing shared items, and implementing rigorous cleaning efforts.

In addition to four general-population Masses available, we are offering two Masses dedicated to the vulnerable population. If someone in your household is an at-risk individual, you may choose to attend one of these Masses as well. Face coverings/masks will be strictly enforced. If you consider yourself to be a high-risk individual; one who has a suppressed immune system or vulnerable to illness, please know that you will be prayed for, and you will receive dispensation through June 30 should you choose to stay home and participate in a virtual Mass. We trust you to make the best decision for yourself and your family regarding the choice to attend Mass.

Daily Masses resume as previously scheduled on Friday, May 29. The parish office remains closed in compliance with the governor’s stay at home order. If you have any questions regarding reopening, please email Amber in the parish office at ahiske@sacredheartgr.org or contact our temporary phone number at 616-287-0256.

All parish reopening guidelines as they relate to attending Mass at Sacred Heart can be found by clicking Parishioner Guidelines. Please read them thoroughly prior to signing up for Mass at the link below.

May God continue to bless you and your family. We look forward to seeing you at Mass soon.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Robert
